Haiti Singing
Haiti Singing
On Tuesday 12th January 2010, a devastating earthquake registering at 7.0 hit Haiti, destroying much of an already fragile and overpopulated country.
The Haiti Singing charity campaign was born on that day amidst reports that soon suggested a horrifying death toll of more than a quarter of a million people; an estimated 300,000 injured and perhaps more than 1 million left homeless. We hope that our fundraising project will be a long-term effort to help the victims of the earthquake and contribute to the rebuilding of the country.
Last December, we raised money for Oxfam’s efforts in Haiti through our ‘Carols for Haiti’ campaign. We are now aiming to run this campaign as an annual event. You can read about this campaign by clicking the “Carols” link at the top of the page.
Our first project involved the recording of a traditional Haitian folk song, Fey-O, raising over £3000 for the DEC Haiti Earthquake appeal. You can listen to this song on the right or read more and download for free by clicking “Fey-O” at the top of the page.

One Year On
A year ago today a devastating earthquake registering 7.0 hit Haiti, just 16 miles from the capital Port-au-Prince. It is still unknown how many people died on this day with some reports suggesting up to a quarter of a million. On top of this figure over a million people were made homeless on that day.
A year on and little has changed in Haiti. Over one million are still homeless and only 2% to 4% of the rubble has been cleared. The homeless are living in inhumane conditions and many have no access to food or clean water, meaning that disease is spreading throughout the homeless camps. This gained media interest with the Cholera outbreak towards the end of last year.
Haiti was one of the poorest places on earth before the earthquake and life was a struggle for most of the population, but the earthquake turned the lives of these people upside down.
One year on, please do not forget these people and help us to support Oxfam and all of the aid agencies in Haiti.
